Detailed LCD technology

LCD liquid crystal is a substance between liquid and solid, through different temperature changes to achieve different arrangements of liquid crystal molecules, thereby producing different gray levels and different color images. The current LCD technology is mainly divided into single-chip LCD and three-chip LCD projectors. Monolithic LCD technology integrates the three primary colors of red, green and blue on a single LCD panel, while 3LCD technology divides the red, green and blue into three LCD panels. From a technical point of view, the current single-chip LCD technology has been eliminated tragically, while the three-chip LCD continues to be used, but gradually tends to be niche.

DLP technology detailed

From the example below, we can clearly see that the principle of DLP is as follows:

Light bulb-condenser lens-color wheel-lens-DMD chip-projection magnifying glass-screen

To make a simple analogy, the DMD chip is like using a flashlight switch to signal, but the DMD is a lot of mirrors, and it changes 3 colors. At a speed of more than 60 times per second, the eyes can mix the color afterimages to form a color. .

A single-chip DMD is composed of many micro-mirrors. Each micro-mirror corresponds to a pixel. The area of the pixel is 16μm16μm (the new version is 14μm14μm). The physical resolution of the DLP projector is determined by the number of micromirrors.

Comparison of DLP technology and LCD technology

Generally speaking, the color saturation of LCD projection is better, but the image stability of DLP technology is very reliable. Because DLP technology uses inorganic materials, the display life of DMD chips can reach 100,000 hours. The LCD technology uses liquid crystal panels, so long-term use will cause the image quality to decline.

In addition, DLP technology has a more excellent contrast ratio. The general DLP projection can reach a contrast ratio of 3000:1, while the LCD projection is only 800:1. This difference also causes the LCD performance to be worse in the dark level. . On the whole, DLP projection with higher market share and fewer shortcomings is undoubtedly more worthwhile to start with.
